Boot Chests

If you have ever wished you could keep all your guns, cartridges and shooting accessories safely and conveniently in one purpose built box in your vehicle, then Boxwood has the solution.

We produce custom made chests for the rear load space of 4 x 4/shooting vehicles, each one individually made to your requirements and make of vehicle. The chests are robustly constructed in Oak or American Black Walnut and are finished to a high standard with brass fittings. A chest will ensure that all your guns, ammunition and valuables are safely out of sight and we can make the chests to fit beneath parcel shelves/boot covers if preferred.

Depending on your requirements we can include a fully ‘loaded’ refreshment drawer in which you may want to include several types of glasses (for example tots, flutes, tumblers), racks for holding bottles (be it wine, champagne, spirits), flasks and stainless steel cups, bottle opener, perhaps even a cheese board.

Many of our customers want a drawer in to which they can place their own gun case(s), however some prefer to have a drawer fitted out with compartments for breaking guns into. For these drawers we fit high quality Italian made inserts.

We hope it is apparent from the above that our emphasis is on producing a chest which is made specifically to accommodate your individual requirements, indeed we do not have a ‘standard’ chest and no two have ever been the same.

Thus there are a number of options to consider when thinking about commissioning a Boxwood boot chest, below are some points to assist:

Overall size – generally dictated by the number of drawers required and the dimensions of the vehicle load space
Storage required for :

        gun(s) – cased or broken into fitted sections
        cartridges (number of boxes)
        boots/shoes/wet weather gear
        gun cleaning kit*
        humidor*
Refreshment drawer required (fitted for x glasses/bottles etc.)
Inclusion of dog cage required or option for dog to sit on top
Protective cover (useful if dog is to ride on top of the chest)

* drawer can be fully fitted with these items or spaces created to insert your own

Once you have thought about what exactly needs to be transported in your chest, we can then advise on the design and cost.

Whilst a large number of the chests we have produced have been made specifically to carry guns and shooting gear, we can of course make them for other purposes such as carrying fishing tackle or simply for the provision of a stylish picnic in the car park at Cheltenham, a point-to-point, the rugby or a summer concert evening for example.

Come the day that you wish to change your vehicle and your existing boot chest no longer fits, we may be able to offer a trade in option when you order a new chest from us (subject to the condition of the old chest).

A dual purpose two tier chest - in addition to the refreshment drawer, the bottom drawer includes an interchangable section (lifts out) either for carrying guns or, for out of season entertaining, a stylish picnic tray.

The chest was designed as three separate drawers and incorporating some ingenious sliding compartments for glasses, provision of storage areas and a 'serving' tray (guns were to be carried separately in this particular case).
