Design Elements

This section aims to show in greater detail the main elements of our boxes, including the wood itself and fittings. We place great emphasis on being able to create custom made pieces, and we work closely with our customers to incorporate their exact requirements. Large or small, there are various opportunities for our customers to create a truly bespoke box, from selecting the type of wood, deciding on the internal layout or colour of the interior baize through to the addition of a personalised brass plaque.

Woods

There are many and varied wood species, some particularly suited to specific projects more than others. The following samples are typically used in our products and are generally available, however, under certain circumstances particular wood types may not be available and others may be suggested. Similarly, if a wood you like is not listed please contact us as we may be able to source it for you.

	Ash – A light coloured wood, cream to light brown, with a bold, straight grain.
	Beech – Cream to slightly pink in colour, with distinctive flecks. Tightly grained.
	Cherry – Light peach to brown with a pink tinge, course wild grain.
	Elm – A light brown to brown wood with a reddish tinge. Wild interlocked grain gives this timber its beauty.
	South American Mahogany – Natural colour is a pinkish brown, more commonly it is stained to a rich reddish brown. The grain is fine with dark flecks.
	Maple – A beautifully figured timber, pale cream/white in colour with a close grain.
	European Oak – A creamy straw colour which mellows in time to a rich golden colour. A slightly coarser, wilder grain than its American counterpart.
	American Black Walnut - Varies in colour from a light grayish to a deep purple brown.

Inlay Bandings

Inlay bandings and lines are available in a wide variety of styles and colors. The following are typical examples used in our products; they are specially chosen to contrast perfectly with the different wood types.

	Tulipwood – Tulipwood bordered with Box and Ebony. Available in 4, 6 and 10mm widths.
	Kingwood – Kingwood boarderd with Box and Ebony. Available in 4, 6 and 10mm widths.
	Rope – Part stained wood. Available in 3 and 5mm widths.
	Cherry – Cherry bordered with Ebony, Box and Ebony. Available in 7mm width.

Linings

Where possible, all boxes, draws etc. are lined with a self adhesive velour material with a choice of the following colors.

	Black
	Royal Blue
	Burgundy
	Gold
	Dark Green
	Fine ribbed rubber matting (Black) – used on top surface of boot chests and for the lining of "wet" drawers.

Brass Fittings

All our boxes and chests are furnished with quality brass fittings. We can personalize your chosen product with a plaque bearing an inscription of your choice. The following are examples within our range, however should you require an alternative, please enquire and we will try to accommodate.
